Bloodied gunshot victim found walking without pants in Rowan County

A man bloodied by numerous gunshots was found walking without pants on a Rowan County road Tuesday morning.

Johnny Leonard, 52, of Salisbury was walking in the 1800 block of Old Union Church Road in East Spencer about 08:20 a.m. when sheriff’s investigators were alerted. Rowan County EMS took him to a local hospital. His condition was unknown later Tuesday, and it was not clear why Leonard was walking with no pants on.

Leonard was shot and robbed of his wallet and car near the Food Lion in Spencer, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said. The 2006 silver Subaru has minor damage to the front passenger side, a neighbor who called 911 about the incident told the Observer. The Subaru has an N.C. tag of DJV2253, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators said they have a person of interest but have not released the person’s name.
