Rock Hill Police say a woman’s Facebook post about her girlfriend allegedly choking her over the weekend led officers to investigate and charge the accused woman with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Officers received an anonymous tip about the incident Saturday night, according to a police report. The caller said the victim had posted on Facebook that her girlfriend had choked her earlier in the evening and the caller was worried about the woman’s well-being.

Authorities went to the woman’s apartment near Celanese Road where her girlfriend answered the door, officers say. Police found broken glass scattered across the apartment’s kitchen floor and a microwave laying on the floor, according to the incident report.

The victim was in a bedroom. She told officers her girlfriend, Lauren Caitlin Timberlake, 26, choked her and pushed her, causing injuries, the report states.

Officers say the woman’s nose had some dried blood, her neck was red with marks that looked like choking injuries, she had a cut on her face, and her left eye was swollen and beginning to turn black. The report states that the woman told officers she was injured after Timberlake pushed her down, causing her to hit the edge of a bed frame.

Timberlake told police that a dispute began after both women had been drinking. She claimed that her girlfriend had been throwing items around the apartment and that she was hit but there were no visible injuries, according to the report.

Timberlake then allegedly admitted to pushing her girlfriend but told officers she had not caused the injuries to her, the report states.

A third person in the apartment witnessed the incident on Saturday night, police say. He told officers that the couple was arguing and the victim began throwing items inside the home. Timberlake choked the woman for about 30 seconds, according to the witness statement in the police report.

Officers say the victim refused medical assistance when offered and Timberlake was taken to Rock Hill city jail.
