CMPD charges man with murder in 2015 homicide

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Thursday that they’ve arrested a man in connection with a 2015 homicide.

Almost two years ago, on April 26, 2015, Rayquan Levon Holmes, 37, was shot. His girlfriend drove him to Carolinas Medical Center-University, where he died.

Robert Lewis Daniels Jr. was arrested early Thursday with the assistance of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Homicide detectives traveled to Cumberland County in Eastern North Carolina and interviewed Lewis.

Daniels, 28, has been charged with murder. CMPD didn’t give any information about what led them to suspect or arrest Daniels. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with further information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and request to speak directly to a homicide detective.

Police also said they determined the 2015 shooting took place at 801 S. Hoskins Road, in northwest Charlotte. They previously had not said where the shooting happened, only that Holmes died at the hospital.
