Police shoot person in Kannapolis on Friday afternoon

Police shot a person in Kannapolis on Friday afternoon, Observer news partner WBTV reported.

Police were serving warrants on a person near InTown Suites on South Cannon Boulevard at about 4:30 p.m. when shots were fired, according to the station.

The person was hospitalized but is expected to be OK, WBTV reported Friday night. Police have not released the person’s name or condition or any other details about the shooting.

The hotel was evacuated so police could go from room to room. “I heard the officers say put the weapon down,” hotel guest Diana Brown told the station. “I heard about 11 rounds go off right in front of my door. Then I heard a scuffle, telling people to get down, get down and I just laid low until the officers escorted me out of the building.”

The SBI is handling the investigation, Kannapolis Police Chief Woody Chavis said
