A Rowan County woman faces animal cruelty charges after sheriff’s investigators found three dead cats and a cat skull in her home, and five dogs in her back yard that appeared to have gone without food and water.
Barbara Hart, 64, was arrested Friday and charged with nine counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals. She was jailed on $1,500 bail and has a June 12 trial.

Deputies and animal control officers wearing breathing apparatus found the animals after responding to a report about animal cruelty at a home in the 900 block of Lincolnton Road near Salisbury.
