One lucky winner will be heading to Raleigh soon to collect a record-breaking $1.7 million jackpot from the N.C. Education Lottery.
A Hickory gas station sold the Cash 5 lottery ticket that won the jackpot in Saturday’s drawing. The win breaks Cash 5 records for biggest single-ticket jackpot and for the biggest jackpot ever — a mark previously set by a $1.35 million pot shared by three tickets in May 2011.
Winning the lottery isn’t quite a one in a million chance. The jackpot chances are more like one in 749,398, the state lottery reports.
