Police identify man found fatally shot in car in west Charlotte

A man found in a car that smashed into a power pole in west Charlotte had been shot and killed, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said late Monday. It was the city’s 41st homicide this year.

Police later identified the victim as Cornell Lamarche Bridges, 32.

Police found Bridges in the driver’s seat of a white car that hit the pole in the 300 block of North Hoskins Road at about 7:10 p.m.

Freedom Division officers initially responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the 4500 block of Hovis Road. Officers were on scene when more calls came into 911 from nearby locations, including of someone being shot in the car on North Hoskins Road, police said.

Medic pronounced Bridges dead at the scene. Police said they were interviewing witnesses late Monday.
