The investigation began on June 29, when Alexander County sheriff’s investigators received a report from the county’s Department of Social Services about possible sex abuse of a 14-year-old.

Marlow was a Marine at the time of the incident but has since been discharged, Alexander County Chief Deputy Tod Jones told the Observer. It is unclear whether he was honorably or dishonorably discharged, Jones said.

Lincolnton police, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and investigators from the Marine Corps base at Camp Lejeune helped with the investigation.

Marlow also was served with an order for arrest for failure to appear in an unrelated prostitution-solicitation case in Onslow County. Court records show Marlow was found guilty in February of misdemeanor soliciting a prostitute and was ordered to serve 45 days of community punishment and pay $455 in court costs.
