Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a motorist in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man riding a moped Saturday night in southwest Charlotte.
At 8:13 p.m. Saturday, Angel Zarate Cruz, 43, was riding a moped near the 6400 block of South Boulevard. He was stopped and waiting to turn left into a shopping center parking lot, police said.
A 2010 Dodge Caliber traveling southbound on South Boulevard rear-ended the moped, police said, pushing Cruz and the moped into the northbound lanes of South Boulevard, police said.
A vehicle traveling northbound struck Cruz and the moped as a result of the first collision, police said.

Police said the driver of the Dodge Caliber fled south on South Boulevard, while the second vehicle that hit the moped stopped at the crash scene. Medic pronounced Cruz dead at the scene.
A witness who saw the crash called 911 and gave authorities a description of the Dodge and a tag number, police said.
Officers responded to the registered address and found the car there. They charged James Lesage, 51, with driving while impaired, felony hit-and-run and felony death by vehicle, police said.
Lesage is in custody, and detectives are still actively investigating the crash, police said.
