CMPD investigates homicide in Grier Heights, the 58th in Charlotte this year

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Grierton Court, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Saturday morning.

That’s in the Grier Heights neighborhood near Randolph Road. It is the 58th homicide in Charlotte this year.

The initial call for service over an assault with a deadly weapon came in at 11 a.m. Saturday, police said. Authorities found a male outside on the ground with a gunshot wound. That person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury.

A second male was found on the front porch of an apartment and was pronounced dead by MEDIC, CMPD said. Police identified him as Washington Herman Ryles, 22.

Both victims and the suspect knew one another, according to police.
