A deputy fatally shot a man while responding to a domestic dispute in Burke County late Monday, Sheriff Steve Whisenant said.
The deputy fired one shot at the man after the man pointed a gun at him, according to the sheriff.
The shooting happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Pritchard Drive near Morganton. The sheriff’s office has yet to release the names of the man who was killed and the deputy who shot him.
The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to handle the investigation.
