CMPD Major Gerald Smith addresses the city's 62nd homicide of the year at Uppergate Lane on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

Police found a man fatally shot in an east Charlotte front yard on Wednesday night.

Officers found the man in the 4000 block of Uppergate Lane, off Shamrock Drive, after responding to a call about the shooting at 7:33 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the man’s name and age will be released after police notify his family.

The man was shot during an argument, CMPD Major Gerald Smith said at the scene. Police have investigated other homicides this year where arguments led to a death, he said.

“Just people getting angry, picking up whatever they have at hand, shooting each other, as we have here,” Smith said. “Two people having an argument.”

CMPD homicide detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses late Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 704-432-8477 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

The killing is the city’s 62nd in 2017.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
