A Catawba County man was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of killing a 24-year-old man and injuring his mother in a shooting.
According to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Scott Anthony Putnam went to a home in Conover late Tuesday night. He banged on the door until Anthony Killian answered with his mother, Observer news partner WBTV reported.
There was an argument between Putnam and the mother and son before Putnam shot them both, according to WCNC.
Killian died at the scene, and his mother was taken to a hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. The mother was not identified.
The mother’s husband and Killian’s fiance were at the home during the shooting, WSOC reported.
Putnam has multiple convictions for assault, according to court records. In 2011, he was convicted of assault inflicting serious injury in Catawba County. In 2012, he was also found guilty of assault on a female, records show.
