Charlotte man charged with murder days after deadly shooting south of uptown

A 20-year-old Charlotte man was charged with murder Tuesday, more than a week after 24-year-old Decario Bethea was shot and killed off South Tryon Street, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Daquan Thompson was already in the Mecklenburg County Jail on unrelated charges when he was interviewed and charged with murder, police said.

Thompson had been arrested last Thursday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharge of a firearm into occupied property, according to jail records.

Thompson and Bethea knew each other, police said, and they were involved in an argument before the shooting outside the Southside Apartments on Fairwood Avenue.

Bethea was killed just a few days after two women were shot inside an apartment on the same street. One of the victims, 21-year-old Tayzhah Bush, died. A man was quickly arrested and charged with murder.

Including Bethea and Bush, 41 people have been killed in Charlotte this year.
