A 26-year-old man has died after a vehicle struck him early Friday on the ramp from Independence Boulevard onto Charlottetowne Avenue, police said Saturday.

Roque Cortes Salinas was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening head injuries after a vehicle struck him about 3:15 a.m. Friday.

Police continue to view video from several traffic cameras near the crash and the direction the suspect vehicle would have traveled.

Police want to speak to the drivers of two vehicles: a white two-door sedan with a sunroof and a burgundy Dodge Ram pickup with a bed cover, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Detective Kevin Allred said.

The vehicle that struck Salinas would have only minor damage to the front right corner, Allred said.

The vehicle would have been in the area of Seventh Street/Charlottetowne Avenue between 2:30 and 3:10 a.m., Allred said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that would help the investigation is asked to call Allred at 704-432-2169 or Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
