Hickory man shot dead early Saturday

Hickory police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the person who shot a 23-year-old man in the 800 block of Second Street Southeast early Saturday.

It marked the second fatal shooting in the city in less than a week.

Police said they found Octavis Sentex Geter of Hickory lying in the road with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

A large crowd was in the road when police arrived at about 2 a.m.

“Investigators have spoken to several people and continue to follow any leads,” Police Chief Tom Adkins said in a news release Saturday afternoon. “The Hickory Police Department needs the help of our community to bring the individual responsible to justice for this tragedy.”

Anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting is asked to call police at 828-328-5551.

Adkins said the two fatal shootings are unrelated.

Late Monday, police were called to a home on Eighth Avenue Drive Southeast and found Lancelot Kenyatta Ellison, 46, of Georgia, unresponsive as a result of gunshot wounds. Officers administered CPR, but Ellison was later declared dead at the scene.

Police obtained warrants on Tevin Jerome Davis, 23, for first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.
