Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting in southeast Charlotte

Police charged a 32-year-old man in Wednesday’s fatal shooting of Corey Bryce Davner at an apartment complex in southeast Charlotte.

At about 9:15 p.m., police found Davner suffering from a gunshot wound in an apartment on Creekwood Quorum Drive, near the McAlpine Creek greenway. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Thursday morning, police arrested Quintin Sinclair Wright and charged him with murder and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and firearm by a felon.

Police said Davner and Wright knew each, but aren’t saying what they believe led to the shooting.

Police encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to call 704-432-TIPS (8477) and speak to a homicide detective. Or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Tipsters are eligible for a reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Pineville police, meanwhile, investigated the shooting of a man early Thursday behind an apartment complex on Sabal Point Drive, Observer news partner WBTV reported. Police have not released the man’s condition or details of the shooting.

Davner’s killing was the second police investigated on Wednesday. Sarah Acker, 53, was shot and killed and her boyfriend was arrested after a brief pursuit in the Acker’s car.

Officers were summoned to Acker’s home on State Street near Johnson C. Smith University for a check the welfare call. When they got there, they found Acker unresponsive.
