A father shot and seriously injured his son as the two men were fighting on a street in Gaston County, police said.
Police said the shooter, Samuel Jay Williams, 56, had not been charged with a crime late Monday. His son, Daniel Scott Williams, 28, was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his abdomen near his hip, police said. He was undergoing surgery Monday evening.
Someone called 911 just before noon Monday saying the father and son were “physically fighting in the roadway in front of their residence at 106 Long Creek Church Road.”
Officers were dispatched to the scene. Seconds later, more people called 911 saying shots had been fired and the son was lying on the ground.

“One of the 911 calls came from the father ... stating he shot his son during the fight,” Gaston Police said.
Police said Samuel Williams is cooperating with investigators. The case remained under investigation late Monday and will ultimately be presented to the Gaston District Attorney’s office, which will determine if Samuel Williams will face charges.
