York County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man in the killing of the owner of Campbell’s Greenhouses in Dilworth, who was found shot to death in his Lake Wylie home earlier this month.
Kevin Mauricio Arita Dejesus, 21, of Charlotte was arrested Thursday and charged with murder.
A release from the York County Sheriff’s Office didn’t go into details of the investigation or arrest, and noted the investigation into Campbell’s death is ongoing.
On the afternoon of Jan. 6, sheriff’s deputies found Campbell dead of an apparent gunshot wound in his home on Pine Moss Lane. A concerned co-worker went to Campbell’s home when he didn’t show up for work Campbell’s Greenhouses and Nursery in Charlotte’s Dilworth neighborhood and found him lying on the floor.

Deputies had to use an ax to break into the house, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report.
It’s not clear what motive DeJesus may have had for killing Campbell. York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant said investigators are looking into DeJesus’s legal status in the United States.
“This person was in possession of a Honduran passport, and the York County Sheriff’s Office will work to determine his legal immigration status in the United States,” Bryant said.
Dejesus is being held in the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center until extradition proceedings can take place.
