A Charlotte man was sentenced to at least 12 years in prison Monday after a Mecklenburg County jury found him guilty of attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl.
Zerrick Ramon Mack, 38, also was found guilty of indecent liberties with a child, according to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.
The assault happened over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2012.
Mack told the girl not to tell anyone what happened, but she confided in a cousin the next day, prosecutors said. The young cousin called the victim’s mother, who called police.

“The prosecution of this sex offender would not have been possible without the work of Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, as well as the strength shown by this teenage victim, who helped protect other children in the community by testifying against her assailant at trial,” the district attorney’s office said in a news release.
