Hickory police have charged a Granite Falls man in Wednesday’s shooting death of a 22-year-old woman in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant at 170 U.S. 321 NW.

Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the parking lot about 6 p.m. and found Richelle Scott Lail of Hudson on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Officers also found Cody William Watts, 28, of Hickory, sitting in a vehicle also suffering from gunshot wounds.

Lail died at the scene, and Watts was taken to a hospital, where he is in critical condition, police said.

Police charged Eric Terril Yount, 22, of Granite Falls, with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Yount was in the Catawba County Jail Thursday morning without bail.

The killings appear to be domestic-related, police said in a news release.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
