Police name driver in wreck that killed West Meck High student

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Thursday named the driver of a speeding car in which a 15-year-old West Mecklenburg High student died after the car ran off Windy Grove Road and hit a tree.

Police said the driver, Austin Locke, 18, remains in critical condition and that charges are pending in the investigation.

Passenger Heaven Seay was pronounced dead at the scene, and two other passengers were seriously injured. The Mitsibishi Eclipse wrecked Tuesday morning in an area between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Catawba River, about two hours after school started.

The other passengers, Gerado Gillen, 18, and Esmerelda Hermosillo, 17, also attend West Meck High, police said.

Locke is not a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools student, according to CMS.
