Man fatally shot in Concord

A man died after he was shot on Griffin Circle in Concord on Monday night.

Columbus Simmons, 21, of Concord died later at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast, police said.

Two others who also were shot had injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

The shootings happened shortly before 8 p.m.

Police said they received a call of gunshots being fired and a large crowd running from Griffin Circle. They found Simmons with a gunshot wound.

Police have not said whether they know what prompted the shootings or whether the victims knew the gunman. No arrests have been made.
