Three Mecklenburg sheriff’s deputies were assaulted as they tried to serve an order on a man who became combative Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred about 2 p.m. on Timber Oaks Lane in an apartment complex near McAlpine Creek Park.
The Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Office didn’t release the names of the deputies or the man they were trying to serve. All three deputies were taken to a local hospital to be evaluated, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anjanette Grube.
Grube said the man who became combative was also taken to the hospital to be evaluated. He remained in the custody of the sheriff’s office late Monday.

Use of force by sheriff’s deputies is rare in Mecklenburg County, as Charlotte-Mecklenburg police perform most law enforcement tasks in the county. The sheriff’s office serves warrants and is responsible for security at the courts and in the county’s jail.
