Police: Rock Hill shooting victim hit by car before being shot

Police say a man was hit by a car while riding his bicycle late Tuesday and then shot in the head.

The incident happened just before 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Harrison Street, according to a Rock Hill police report. Officers arrived and found a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head but conscious and alert.

The man told officers he was on his bicycle on Friedheim Road traveling toward Harrison Street when a light-colored sedan struck him and his bicycle. The man said after he was struck, an unknown person began shooting at him.

Police say they located several shell casings nearby. The man was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Capt. Mark Bollinger said no arrests have been made, and investigators have little information.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Rock Hill Police Department at 803-329-7200.
