A Cleveland County Sheriff’s deputy was injured and a suspect he was trying to subdue was killed during an altercation Tuesday, authorities said.
The Cleveland Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy as Scott Trammel, according to the Shelby Star. The man who was killed has not been identified.
Sheriff Alan Norman told reporters that Trammel fatally shot the unidentified man during an altercation.
“We have an individual that apparently attacked the officer and the officer shot the individual,” Norman said. “It’s to be determined if (Trammel will) be admitted with the injuries he obtained during the assault.”
Norman told reporters that Trammel was called out to a home on East Stagecoach Trail in Lawndale to help paramedics with a mentally disturbed person.
When the deputy arrived at the scene, the altercation occurred, then the shooting.
