Man fatally shot in west Charlotte early Friday

A man died and a woman was injured in a shooting in west Charlotte early Friday.

Police said they found the victims after responding to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon at the intersection of Effingham Road and Tuckaseegee Road at midnight.

Medic pronounced the man dead at the scene. The woman was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they will release the man’s name once his family is notified.

Police have not said if they have a suspect but said they do not believe the shootings were random.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives were canvassing the neighborhood to find any witnesses.
