Police are investigating the death of a 62-year-old Charlotte man whose body was found Thursday 8 miles from the assisted-living community where he lived.

Samuel Daye was found dead about 2:45 p.m. Thursday on Governors Hill Lane, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. Governors Hill Lane is off Colony Road in south Charlotte near Sharon Elementary School.

Daye was reported missing Monday and was last seen walking from the East Towne assisted-living community in the 4800 block of North Sharon Amity Road. He was hearing impaired and unable to verbally communicate, police said.

The N.C. Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Daye, meaning he was believed to be suffering from dementia or other cognitive impairment.

As part of the investigation, CMPD’s homicide unit and the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office were notified and will determine whether a pre-existing medical condition caused Daye’s death, police said Friday.
