A former North Carolina Highway Patrol officer is under investigation for using excessive force on a suspect while off duty.
The investigation has led to the dismissal of all pending charges by the former officer. That includes 67 DWI charges, according to WBTV, the Observer’s news partner.
The former trooper , C.T. Hodges, faces allegations that he used excessive force with a person suspected of driving while intoxicated, according to a release from the Burke-Caldwell-Catawba District Attorney’s Office . That suspect was in the custody of another law enforcement officer, and Hodges was off duty at the time, the report indicates.
The incident occurred June 4, and Hodges resigned June 10. He was a trooper in Caldwell County.
Hodges has not been charged, but the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
Any charges issued by Hodges that were pending as of June 4 will be dismissed. He will not be called to testify regarding tickets he’s previously written.
