Middle school teacher accused of sending obscene videos, pictures to students

A Cleveland County middle school science teacher has been arrested after authorities say she sent obscene videos and pictures of herself to at least two students.

Caron Elizabeth Blanton, 34, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child under 16 and six counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor.

Blanton, who taught at Burns Middle School in Lawndale, turned herself in at the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and was released from jail on a $150,000 bond.

Authorities and school administrators were alerted on April 9 “that a male student had in his possession an inappropriate video that had been sent to him by a female teacher,” according to a news release from the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.

School officials had already talked to the student and had confiscated his phone when they called deputies. During the investigation, detectives learned two boys had allegedly received videos and pictures of the teacher.

Blanton was suspended from her job when the school discovered the situation last week and then she resigned on Friday, said Cleveland County schools spokesman Greg Shull.

Sheriff Alan Norman said the investigation is ongoing and there could be more charges.
