Iredell seeks man in alleged Internet sex case

Iredell County authorities are looking for an Albemarle man in an Internet sex case in which a teen-age girl allegedly was sexually assaulted.

The sheriff’s office said it is looking for Jarred Ashley Workman, 27. Investigators said they have 11 felony warrants for statutory rape and five warrants for statutory sex offense against Workman.

Deputies said Workman also is wanted by authorities in Stanly County.

Investigators said they were called May 2 by a woman who said she discovered a man hiding in her daughter’s bedroom closet at the family’s home in northern Iredell County. The man was able to get past the woman and escape, deputies said.

Investigators said they were unable to find the man but located a wallet and cell phone.

The mother told deputies that her daughter had met a man online and had been communicating with him for about a week. Investigators said the daughter told them that she arranged to meet the man near her home. When they met, the girl said, she invited the man into the family’s home.

The girl said the man sexually assaulted her.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, 704-878-3180, or Iredell/Statesville Crime Stoppers, 704-662-1340.
