One person was killed and another was seriously injured after a pickup truck flipped and crashed in Gastonia on Tuesday afternoon.
The wreck happened on Interstate 85 northbound near Edgewood Road (Exit 13).
The driver of the pickup truck lost control, causing it to overturn. When it came to rest on its wheels, one of the occupants was ejected and another was trapped in the wreckage.
Firefighters used the jaws of life to remove a door and free the trapped person about 10 minutes after the wreck. That person was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The person ejected from the truck died at the scene.
Investigators have not released the name of either person involved in the wreck. The cause is still under investigation.
The ramp from Edgewood Road to I-85 was closed during rush hour as the N.C. Highway Patrol investigated.
