Cab driver wounded in Monroe Road robbery

A Charlotte cab driver was shot and wounded early Tuesday in an apparent robbery, police said.

The incident took place about 3 a.m. on Monroe Road at Washburn Avenue, near the rear access to Bojangles’ Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium.

Police said initial reports indicate a man approached a cab driver at the intersection and pulled a gun. Moments later, police said, the suspect fired a shot at the driver, wounding him in the leg.

The suspect ran off, and it is not clear whether he took any money. The cab driver is expected to survive, police said. Steve Lyttle
