Babysitter pleads guilty to debit card theft

A York County, S.C., woman pleaded guilty on Thursday to felony financial transaction card theft and misdemeanor financial transaction card fraud for using the debit card of a woman whose grandchildren she was babysitting.

Elizabeth Plyler Elkins was sentenced to three years in prison suspended to 30 days in jail, followed by five years of probation.

Elkins was babysitting the grandchildren of Delores Gillen, 87, of Rock Hill for a week in July 2013 when she used Gillen’s debit card without permission, prosecutors sad.

Elkins used the card to buy gas for herself and her sister, Katie Joy, prosecutors said. Joy was also arrested and pleaded no contest to the charges on June 24.
