A man literally ran out of his shoes in an unsuccessful attempt to get away from police after a traffic stop on Saturday night.
According to the report, police stopped a gold Honda CRV being driven by Antonio Derrill Davis, 23, of Kannapolis, for driving with the lights out over the license plate.
Davis pulled over in the parking lot of the J.C. Price Legion hut. When an officer approached the car and asked the driver his name, Davis replied with a false identity.
When the officer went back to the patrol car, Davis jumped from the car and took off running towards Civic Park Apartments. The man was able to jump a fence and head for the woods, but with officers hot on his trail, Davis gave up.
Officers noted that Davis ran out of his shows at one point, leaving them behind as he tried to scamper away.
Police discovered that Davis had several outstanding warrants, and they also discovered a cold Ice House beer in the console of the Honda.
Davis was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, burglary, and drug possession from Spencer, as well as resisting police, open container, probation violation, and driving with a revoked license in Salisbury.
Bond was set at $85,000.
