Five women were arrested in Atlantic Beach late Friday as part of the first prostitution sting coordinated by the town's new police chief.
Chief Timothy Taylor said the women were called and offered money for sex. The first woman showed up at the motel at 9 p.m.and the last one arrived around midnight. One of the women had four needles of heroin, he said.
Taylor, who has been on the job just two weeks, said he hopes the bust sends the message that the police department has the support of the town's leaders and is taking a different approach to combating crime.
"Atlantic Beach, we're going in a new direction in the police department," he said. "We're going to take it to the highest level that we can take it."

Police arrested Brittney Benjamin, Helen Floyd, Jyvonna Waiters Moss, Laura Howell and Ashley Dutcher, Taylor said. All suspects were taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
Dutcher, the chief said, was the suspect who brought heroin to the motel.
Prior to joining the Atlantic Beah force, Taylor worked in Andrews as a narcotics investigator.
