Child dies a day after Independence Blvd. crash

A 3-year-old injured when an SUV crashed into the car his mother was driving Monday died Tuesday, and police are seeking additional charges against the other driver.

Isaac Rowell died about 1 p.m. Tuesday from injuries he got in the crash on Independence Boulevard near Bojangles’ Coliseum just before 9 a.m. Monday.

Isaac’s mother, Silje Grayston, 28, died shortly after the crash. Her 1-year-old son, who was buckled in child restraints in the back seat next to Isaac, remained hospitalized late Tuesday. His condition was not available.

Police say they are seeking additional charges against Caw Kam, who investigators say veered across four lanes of traffic before slamming into the driver’s side of Grayston’s Volvo.

He was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle on Monday and also with having an open container of alcohol in his car. Kam was in Mecklenburg jail late Tuesday in lieu of $101,000 bail.
