Officer injured after patrol car strikes tree

A Gastonia police officer was taken to the hospital after hitting a tree in his patrol car.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. on West Airline Avenue near North King Street in Gastonia.

Sources told WBTV that Officer S. Cain struck a tree in his patrol car, and had to be cut from the vehicle.

Officials said Cain broke at least one of his arms in the crash. Police say he is expected to be okay.

Investigators have not said what may have caused to the wreck.
