Florida authorities seek ‘person of interest’ in Charlotte

Florida authorities said this week that they still believe a man listed as a “person of interest” in an Aug. 5 double homicide and attempted homicide near Orlando is in the Charlotte area.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said it is looking for Nicholas Lopez, 35. His brother, David Lopez, 32, was arrested Aug. 9 in Charlotte in connection with the Florida killings.

Another man, James Hubert Stewart, 29, has been charged in the case.

A man and a woman were killed and another woman injured in the Aug. 5 shootings at the Misty Oaks Apartments, on River Oaks Drive in the Orlando area. Law enforcement officials have not discussed a possible motive in the case.

David Lopez was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

Orange County authorities said last month they they believe Nicholas Lopez is in the Charlotte area, and they repeated that statement this week. They said Lopez is about 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds. Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Orange County Crimeline, 800-423-TIPS.
