A Hickory man will serve at least eight years and four months in prison after being convicted this week of possessing a stolen vehicle and being a habitual felon.

Ronald William Deal, 34, was convicted and sentenced in Catawba County Superior Court. He was sentenced to no more than 11 years in prison.

Deal was arrested and charged in August 2013 at a driver’s license checkpoint conducted by Conover police on Interstate 40’s Exit 132 ramp, District Attorney James Gaither Jr. said.
