Three men accused of killing a Catawba County couple in March made their first court appearances on Monday and were then returned to jail without bail.

Mark Anthony Wilson, 34, and Deidra Lacarol Ramseur, 39, were killed in their home on Rest Home Road in Conover during a robbery attempt, Sheriff Coy Reid said. At least one of the suspects knew the couple, the sheriff said.

Arsenio DeWayne Curtis, 27, and Jordan Alexander Rivera, 25, both of Hickory, and Devin Maurice Ussery, 26, of Conover, are each charged with two counts of murder.

All three appeared before District Court Judge Robert Mullinax and were given a probable cause hearing date of Aug. 15. They will be appointed counsel by the N.C. Office of the Capital Defender in Durham, the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office said.

Ussery was taken into custody at his home on Friday by officers with the Catawba County STAR Team. The Statesville Police Department’s SWAT unit apprehended Curtis. Rivera already was in the Catawba County Detention Center on unrelated charges.
