Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they have rounded up 11 of 24 suspects being sought in connection with a crime sweep in a west Charlotte community.
The effort had targeted the Lakewood community, where police said they had received a number of complaints recently about persistent drug activity, prostitution, alcohol abuse and vagrancy.
Police said they identified 10 suspects who had felony narcotics-related grand jury indictments. They also identified 14 people who were wanted on a variety of state warrants, on charges ranging from prostitution to trespassing to drug paraphernalia possession.
CMPD said that as of late Tuesday, it had nabbed eight of the narcotics suspects and three of those sought on state warrants.
Detectives said they are urging residents in the Lakewood community and elsewhere in Charlotte-Mecklenburg to call 911 when they see criminal activity in their neighborhoods.
