A man accused of fatally shooting a woman in Charlotte last week has died in jail, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report.
Paul Clark Williams, 55, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with killing 44-year-old Jestine Anita Clyburn in northeast Charlotte.
Police say they responded to a domestic related assault call just after 9 p.m. Wednesday night at a home on the 1200 block of Echo Glen Road. When officials arrived at the scene, they found Clyburn suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and pronounced her dead on scene.
Investigators believe Clyburn and Williams knew each other and that the shooting was a result of a domestic fight.
Williams was taken voluntarily to police headquarters to be interviewed by homicide detectives. After he was interviewed and evidence was gathered during the investigation, Williams was charged with first-degree murder.
He was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where police say he died two days later.
According to the report, officers were called to the jail on Friday night around 8:07 pm for a death investigation. Williams was treated for cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
