Police accuse man of kidnapping 2 men, beating them with broom, chair

Authorities on Sunday were looking for a Statesville man who, they said, kidnapped and repeatedly beat two men with a broom and a chair during a dispute over a car.

Police said Mark Baron Wilson, 45, was wanted on two counts of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

The charges stemmed from an incident at a vacant home in the 1300 block of Fifth Street in Statesville. Police said two men were inside the home when Wilson entered and accused them of damaging a vehicle belonging to his brother.

During the argument, police said, Wilson hit the men on the head and in the face with a broom. He held the men, who are 50 and 51, in the house for over two hours, assaulting them whenever they tried to leave, authorities said.

At one point, police said, Wilson used a wooden chair to hit one victim, breaking the chair into pieces. Wilson then took the chair’s broken leg and continued hitting the victim.

Wilson eventually left, and paramedics were called to the house, where they found the 51-year-old man sitting on the curb in front with several lacerations to his face and swelling to his face and head.

He was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital, but because his injuries were so severe, he was later transported to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, police said. The 50-year-old man also had lacerations to his face.

Paramedics notified the police, who ultimately took out warrants for Wilson’s arrest.

The investigation continued Sunday, and Statesville police asked anyone with information about Wilson’s location to call 704-878-3406 or Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340.
