Hickory man sentenced in robbery case

A Hickory man has been sentenced to at least five years and 10 months in prison after a conviction on robbery charges, prosecutors in Catawba County said.

John David Rogers, 23, was convicted Monday of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Judge Linwood Foust sentenced Rogers to between 70 and 96 months in prison, according to authorities.

Rogers had been charged in an April 2013 robbery. Police accused Rogers of threatening store employees with a handgun, although no weapon was produced. Rogers had been accused of stealing $100 in cash, authorities said.
