Drunken driver sentenced to 10 years in bicyclist’s death in Union County

A drunken driver was sentenced on Tuesday to at least 10 years in prison for running into and killing a bicyclist on Unionville-Indian Trail Road in Union County in 2013.

Jason Durell Orbison, 31, pleaded guilty in Union County Superior Court to second-degree murder in the death of Josh Stone. He could serve up to 13 1/2 years.

Orbison had just come from a bar crawl and had a blood-alcohol concentration of .21, nearly three times the legal limit for driving, prosecutors said.

Orbison also was convicted of driving while impaired on July 18, 2007, in Mecklenburg County. Joe Marusak
