A Lincoln County man has been accused of failing to deliver a luxury vehicle to a would-be buyer after the purchaser paid part of the sales price, authorities said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Jeffrey Phillip Maier was arrested last week on one felony charge of obtaining property by false pretenses.
Authorities said Maier is also under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office in South Dakota, by the FBI and by Greensboro police in connection with possible fraud charges.
The victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office Sept. 16 and said he had agreed last March to buy a 2014 Porsche Cayenne, a mid-size “crossover” vehicle, for $67,156. According to investigators, Maier agreed to get the title to the vehicle from a third party, get possession of the title and transfer the title to the victim’s name.
The victim told deputies he paid Maier $5,000 but never heard back from the suspect. Maier, of Stanley, was arrested last Tuesday and jailed under $100,000 bond.
