Statesville police probe Halloween party shooting

Statesville police are investigating a shooting at a Halloween party that left a man hospitalized.

The shooting was reported in the early-morning hours Saturday at a residence in the 1100 block of Wilson Lee Boulevard, police said.

Officers said the victim, a 20-year-old from Statesville, said he left the party, which had drawn about 200 people, to pick up some items. The victim said a fight had broken out while he was gone, and when he returned, he heard several gunshots.

The man said he headed toward the door of the residence and heard another shot that struck his hand. Police said the victim was taken initially to Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville and then transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
