A Charlotte man was sentenced to at least 19 years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenager.

Jose Daniel Gonzalez, 40, was sentenced after a Mecklenburg County jury found him guilty of all the offenses prosecutors brought against him: statutory sex offense, sexual offense by a custodian and indecent liberties with a child, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office said.

Prosecutors said Gonzalez sexually abused the teenage girl in August 2014. The day after the assault, the girl’s mother noticed something was wrong and the girl disclosed the abuse, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Superior Court Judge David Lee also ordered Gonzalez to register as a sex offender for 30 years after he’s released from prison.
