A Charlotte insurance agent has been arrested on more than two dozen charges of embezzlement, authorities said Thursday.
Harry Bernard Laughlin, 51, was charged with 28 felony counts of embezzlement by an insurance agent, according to the N.C. Department of Insurance. He was arrested Wednesday, authorities said.
Investigators said that between August 2013 and March, Laughlin collected $27,000 in insurance premiums from 10 customers but used the money on personal expenditures.
The investigation began when the Department of Insurance received complaints from customers who said they had been given certificates of insurance but learned later that they had no coverage. Steve Lyttle
